Emmanuelle Bercot
After attending the Cours Florent, Emmanuelle Bercot worked under the direction of Robert Hossein and Jean-Luc Tardieu. She then entered La Fémis Film School.
In 1995, she directs the documentary True Romanès, followed by Les Vacances, a short film that wins the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997. Emmanuelle Bercot plays the lead role in her first feature film, Clement, in which she portrays a 30-year-old woman madly in love with a 13-year-old boy. This modest and disturbing film was presented in the Un Certain Regard Section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2001. Backstage, her second film, presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2005, tells the story of the teenage awkwardness through characters played by Isild Le Besco, Emmanuelle Seigner and Noémie Lvovsky.
In 2013, Emmanuelle Bercot directs Catherine Deneuve in On My Way, the story of a 60-year-old woman who decides to leave everything behind. Then in 2015 in Standing Tall, she puts to screen the journey of a difficult young man whom a juvenile judge and an educator tirelessly try to save. The film is presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and Rod Parodot wins the César for the Most Promising Actor in 2016. That same year, Emmanuelle Bercot wins the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role as a broken woman in Maïwenn's film My King.
In 2016, she returns behind the camera to direct 150 Milligrams. The film is a biopic focusing on Irène Frachon, the pneumologist who revealed the Mediator scandal to the public. In 2021, she reunites with Catherine Deneuve in Peaceful, presented out of Competition at the Cannes Film Festival and for which Benoît Magimel wins the César for Best Actor.
On the small screen, Emmanuelle Bercot helped direct the second Season of the Arte series: In Treatment.
