Catalin Mitulescu

Cãtãlin Mitulescu was born in 1972 in Bucharest, Romania. In 2001, he graduates in directing from UNATC (National University of Dramatic Art and Cinematography in Bucharest). His two short films Bucharest-Wien 8:15 and 17 Minutes Late are selected for the Cinefondation at the Cannes Film Festival and other festivals (Clermont-Ferrand, Karlovy Vary, Angers and Turin). Traffic, his third short film, wins him the Palme d'Or in 2004.

In 2006, he co-writes with Andreea Valean and directs his first feature film, How I Celebrated the End of the World, a Franco-Romanian co-production, which is selected for Un Certain Regard and awarded the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Cãtãlin Mitulescu also wins the NHK/Sundance Filmmakers Award for Best European Project. His screenplay for When I Want to Whistle wins him the Hubert Bals Prize in 2003 and the Eureka Prize in 2002.

Loverboy, his second feature, has its world premiere at Un Certain Regard 2011 and goes on to win awards in Sarajevo and Vilnius. His third feature, By the Rails, has its international premiere at Karlovy Vary in 2016 and wins a Special Mention. He then directs Heidi, his fourth film, in 2019.
