Nicole Garcia

Nicole Garcia began her career at the Conservatoire, where she won a first prize in modern comedy in 1969. She comes to prominence in 1974 in Bertrand Tavernier's Let Joy Reign Supreme. She appears in a number of films (The Question, A Captain’s Honor, Duelle and My Uncle from America), but it was thanks to de Broca's comedy Practice Makes Perfect, starring Jean Rochefort, that she wins the César for Best Supporting Actress in 1978. The success of Lelouch's saga Les Uns et les Autres further consolidates her popularity as an actress.

Nicole Garcia then embarkes on a career as a director. After Quinze Août, a short film presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986, she goes on to make several feature films, the majority of which are nominated for César awards. From the Land of the Moon is selected in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016, and her latest film Lovers, starring Pierre Niney, Stacy Martin and Benoît Magimel, is selected in Competition at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival 2020.

At the same time, she continues her acting career in films by Claire Simon, Claude Miller, Jean-Paul Rappeneau, Mia Hansen-Løve and Christophe Honoré.
