Michel Ocelot

After directing some thirty short films and series for the big and small screens, including Les Aventures de Gédéon, Michel Ocelot made his first feature film, Kirikou et la sorcière (1998), inspired by a West African tale.

Following this huge success, Michel Ocelot directed Princes et princesses in 2000, a montage of the filmmaker's earlier films using shadow puppets. He then took his African hero on new adventures in Kirikou et les bêtes sauvages.

In 2006, he directed Azur et Asmar, presented at the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was once again a critical and public success, further cementing his reputation as a master of animation.

In 2011, when his fifth feature Les Contes de la nuit was released, he was awarded the Prix Henri-Langlois. In 2012, new Kirikou adventures are released, Kirikou et les Hommes et les Femmes. His latest feature, Dilili à Paris, wins the 2019 César for Best Animated Film.

In 2020, he directed his first live-action film for the 3e Scène, the short Pablo Paris Satie.
