Lazare Gousseau

Lazare Gousseau is a Franco-Belgian actor and director originally from La Rochelle. After studying philosophy at the University of Bordeaux, he enrolled at the Conservatoire de Liège (Belgium) in 2001. After graduating, he acted in theatre before moving into directing. For the past ten years or so, he has devoted himself to cinema, both as an actor (including in Rachel Lang’s BADEN BADEN, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2016 Jean Carmet Festival; Guillaume Senez’s MIEUX QUE LES ROIS ET LA GLOIRE in 2020; Cécile Mille’s CUI CUI CUI in 2022, Ann Sirot and Raphaël Balboni’s LE SYNDROME DES AMOURS PASSÉES in 2023 – which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week and for which he won the Magritte Award for ‘Most Promising Male Actor’ – and Joachim Trier’s SENTIMENTAL VALUE, Grand Prix at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, in SOUDAIN by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, currently in post-production, and in CE QUI N’EXISTE PAS N’EXISTE PAS, which he co-wrote with Guillaume Senez and Franck Morand) and as a director (L’HAWAÏENNE in 2013, his first short film, EL ASEMBLEO, a feature-length documentary on the Andalusian village of Marinaleda in 2018, and VOUS ÊTES ICI in 2024, a medium-length film supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region). He is currently developing a feature-length fiction project and two documentaries.
