Othello

ABD AL MALIK brings modernity to Verdi’s masterpiece by setting it in our time and in an urban context. Othello just got out of prison and meets gain with his friends from the ghetto, including Cassio and his lover, Desdemona. Othello offers Desdemona a bracelet as a symbol of renewal and a promise of a life dedicated to Good. But his friends have a surprise for him. Cassio drives the blindfolded hero to the opera, where he always dreamt of going. He attends a show about Verdi’s Othello. Amazed by the place, he finds himself in some kind of vertigo. Paranoia does not leave him. The director decided to write the short dialogues in intertitles, usually typical of silent films.
The soundtrack consists of Verdi’s opera music mixed by Arnaud DE SOLIGNAC.
